Key takeaways
An MCP server connects an AI chat app that supports MCP, such as Claude Desktop, to other tools so it can get information and complete tasks. For example, with a Google Analytics 4 MCP server connected, you can ask, “Show me last month’s purchases by landing page, from highest to lowest.” The MCP server gets the data from GA4, and the AI app explains the results. You will see two types of access:
The AI’s explanation needs to be checked. Access to data does not guarantee that every conclusion is correct.
We compared official documentation, setup guides, and published tool lists. The selection focuses on frequent, repetitive marketing tasks. The things we considered:
| MCP server | Best for | Costs, requirements, and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Stape Google Analytics MCP server | Website performance reports | Free server; reads data only |
| Stape GTM MCP server | Managing a GTM setup | Free server; supports edits |
| Stape MCP server | Managing containers hosted on Stape | Stape Account API key required; supports edits |
| Google Ads MCP server | Paid campaign analysis | Hosted by Stape; reads data only |
| Ahrefs MCP | SEO research | Paid plan; usage of credits |
| HubSpot remote MCP server | Customer and lead records | Tools depend on plan and permissions |
| Klaviyo MCP server | Email reports and campaigns | Only Klaviyo account Owners, Admins, and Managers have access. |
| Zapier MCP | Tasks across several apps | Zapier plan sets how many actions the AI can complete each month. |
If your routine starts with several exports from GA4, Google Analytics MCP server is a useful first connection. It retrieves reports, checks current activity, lists accessible properties, and shows linked Google Ads accounts.
Prompt example
“For property [ID], compare purchases by device category for the last two complete weeks. Show both totals and the percentage change.”
Access and limits
Google Analytics MCP server is available for all Stape users. Follow Stape’s setup guide and connect a Google account with access to your website’s GA4 data.
The MCP server only reads data. It does not change GA4 settings. Check the property, dates, and metric definitions before using the output in a client report.
GTM MCP server works with AI chat apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop. It connects the app to GTM so you can manage tracking tags and their rules through the chat.
It supports tasks such as listing tags, creating triggers, updating variables, and managing workspaces. This is useful when you want to review a setup or prepare a specific change without opening each item manually.
Prompt example
“In workspace [name], list the purchase tags and their triggers. Flag possible overlaps for review. Do not change or publish anything.”
Access and limits
GTM MCP server is available for all Stape users. You can connect your Google account using the GTM setup guide.
Test proposed changes in GTM’s Preview mode. Check that they run at the right time and send the right data before publishing your changes. Stape’s MCP webinar explains the workflow and why manual testing still matters.
The Stape MCP server connects your AI app to your Stape account. It lets you list, create, and delete server GTM containers and manage their server locations.
This is useful when you manage tracking for several websites and want a quick overview of the containers in your account. It works alongside the GTM MCP server: the Stape connector manages your hosted containers, while the GTM connector manages tags, triggers, and variables.
Prompt example
“List the containers in my Stape account with their names and server locations. Do not create, change, or delete anything.”
Access and limits
The MCP server is available for all Stape users. You need an AI app that supports MCP and a Stape Account API key, which allows the app to access your account. Follow the Stape MCP setup guide to connect them.
Before approving a change suggested by the app, check the container name and the proposed action.
The Google Ads MCP server connects your Google Ads account to an AI chat app that supports MCP, such as Claude Desktop. You ask questions about your campaigns and receive the results in the chat.
Use it to compare spending, clicks, and conversions across campaigns, ad groups, and keywords.
Prompt example
“Compare spending and conversions for each campaign in Google Ads account [ID] over the last two complete weeks. List campaigns where spending increased, and conversions decreased. Show the figures for both weeks.”
Access and limits
The MCP server is available to all Stape users. Stape hosts it, so you do not need to run a server yourself. Follow the Google Ads MCP setup guide to connect it to your chosen AI chat app and sign in with Google.
Google Ads MCP server reads data only. Review the results and make campaign changes in Google Ads.
Ahrefs MCP provides Ahrefs data for search engine optimization (SEO), the work that helps people find your website through search.
Its research tools cover areas such as keywords, competitors, and backlinks, which are links from other websites. This helps you build a content brief with supporting search data in the same conversation.
Prompt example
“Find 15 keyword ideas about reusable water bottles in the United States. Include search volume and keyword difficulty, then group the ideas by what the reader wants to know.”
Access and limits
You need an Ahrefs Lite plan or higher. Ahrefs charges no separate MCP fee, but data requests use the API units included in your subscription’s monthly allowance.
Your plan also determines how many results Ahrefs returns in one request. For example, Lite allows up to 100 results per request, such as 100 keyword ideas. Check the current plan limits.
Treat search volumes as estimates, and check that each topic fits your customers before adding it to your content calendar.
The HubSpot MCP server gives an AI app access to your customer relationship management (CRM) data.
It reads records such as contacts, companies, and deals, and supports creating or editing supported records. For a marketer, this helps with questions about lead quality and what happens after someone submits a form.
Prompt example
“Find contacts created in September that have no company name. Return their record links and assigned owners. Do not update any records.”
Access and limits
Available tools depend on your subscription, user permissions, and account settings. Ask your account administrator to confirm access and help with the connection.
Check the proposed records and field values before approving updates.
The Klaviyo MCP server provides access to campaign reports, customer groups, templates, and other supported Klaviyo tools.
For an eCommerce team, a useful starting point is comparing email campaigns. Ask how many clicks each campaign received and how much sales revenue Klaviyo links to it. Use the findings to plan your next test.
The server also supports changes, including creating campaigns and updating templates.
Prompt example
“Compare last month’s email campaigns by click rate, unsubscribe rate, and attributed revenue. State which conversion metric you used. Suggest two tests without creating or sending anything.”
Access and limits
The hosted connection requires a Klaviyo Owner, Admin, or Manager role. Your Klaviyo and AI app plans still apply.
For reporting, use Klaviyo’s read access setting. Its custom connection supports read-only=true, which disables write tools. This setting requires a custom connection rather than the standard listed app.
Zapier MCP is useful when a task involves several tools. Zapier MCP service connects AI apps with more than 9,000 apps.
Prompt example
“Add the campaign results from this chat to Google Sheets [file name]. Then write a short summary and save it as a Gmail draft for [email address].”
Access and limits
Zapier MCP is available on all Zapier plans, including Free. A tool call is a request to perform an action, such as adding one row to Google Sheets. Each successful call uses two tasks from your plan’s allowance. Failed calls use no tasks. One chat message can require several tool calls, so check your usage after testing a workflow.
Choose a limited set of tools for your first workflow. Enable only the apps and actions you need, and confirm that Zapier supports the exact action your task requires.
MCP connections reduce the work between asking a question and getting the data needed to answer it. You spend less time exporting files, copying rows, and explaining where each number came from.
They also make follow-up questions easier. After a campaign summary, ask for a device breakdown or a different date range. The AI app retrieves another report through the available tools.
For repetitive tasks, save a prompt that includes your account, dates, metrics, and preferred output. Your team then has a shared starting point for regular checks.
A traditional integration usually follows a defined process. For example, a submitted form creates a CRM contact, or campaign results are automatically added to a spreadsheet every morning.
With MCP, you tell an AI chat app what you want to do. It uses the connected MCP server to carry out your request, such as getting a report from GA4.
| Your need | A useful starting point |
|---|---|
| Automatically add each new lead to your CRM | Traditional integration |
| Send the same type of campaign report on a specific day | Traditional integration |
| Check which channels brought fewer leads | MCP server |
| Ask how the report’s results differ by device or country | MCP server |
The two approaches work together. Keep established workflows for routine delivery and use MCP for questions or actions that depend on the conversation.
Start with one task you are already used to performing. A familiar report gives you something to compare against when you check the AI output.
1. Write down the result you need
Choose a specific job, such as “compare weekly website purchases” or “review last month’s email campaigns.” Then pick the server that provides the required data.
2. Check your AI app and account access
Use the provider’s setup guide for your chosen app. Confirm that your plan supports the connection and that you have permission to access the right account.
3. Check the full cost
Count the AI subscription, usage credits, and any hosting. A free MCP server does not remove the costs of the services connected to it.
4. Start with limited permissions
For reporting, choose only read access where available. Before sharing customer details, check whether the AI chat app saves your conversations or uses them to train AI. Restrict write tools through account permissions or server settings. A request saying “do not change anything” is useful guidance, but permissions provide the access limit.
5. Test it with a familiar task
Try a task you already know how to do. For example, after connecting a GA4 MCP server, ask how many purchases your website recorded last week. Then open GA4 and compare the numbers for the same dates.
Check whether the answer is accurate and includes the details you need. This gives you a starting point for deciding whether to use the server regularly.
6. Save what worked
Save the checked prompt and its output format. Measure how long the task takes, including your review time. Keep the connection if it reduces the work you do each week.
Choose your first MCP server around a task that takes a lot of your time. Stape’s GA4 MCP server is a useful starting point for website reports, while its GTM MCP server supports tracking reviews and changes. The other options discussed in this article cover the marketing jobs around them.
Start with one connection, a specific question, and a result you can verify. Once that process works, add another tool where it serves a clear purpose.
