GTM MCP server

GTM MCP server connects your AI app to GTM. It lets you tell your AI app what you want to do in GTM, from creating tags and triggers to managing containers, variables, templates, and user permissions.

GTM MCP server is available to all Stape users. To use it, you need Node.js v18 or higher and an AI app that supports MCP, for example, Claude Desktop.

Follow our GTM MCP server setup guide to add the required configuration, connect the server to your AI app, and complete Google OAuth.

GTM MCP server is a layer between your AI app and Google Tag Manager. You type a request in your AI app, and the MCP server turns it into a GTM API action.

For example, you can ask the AI app to list tags, create a trigger, update a variable, or check user permissions. The MCP server sends the request to GTM using the Google account you connected during OAuth.

• Complete GTM tasks faster. Ask your AI app to create or edit tags, triggers, variables, GTM clients, templates, and folders instead of writing API requests yourself.
• Manage several GTM setups with less repetitive work. Use the same AI workflow across accounts, workspaces, containers, and environments.
• Find the GTM details you need faster. Ask the app to list existing tags, variables, container versions, or user permissions instead of searching through each GTM area yourself.

Connect your AI app to GTM with the GTM MCP server and start creating, updating, and checking GTM items without manual API setup.
