Common questions and answers

Have there been many updates to the Stape Setup Assistant since it was launched in Beta? Any significant updates to tag setup, or adding more triggers or variables? Also, are there any considerations we need to be aware of regarding caching for server-side or same-origin implementations?

There haven’t been any major updates recently, but work on the Setup Assistant is ongoing. We will announce all significant updates on our social media channels and in the release notes. Everything on same-origin can be found on our HelpDesk.

What is the difference between the Stape Shopify app and competitors?

It’s easy and convenient to use as it provides all the tools needed for proper tracking and measurement on your website, and it’s also free.

Do you offer good training for server-side tracking?

You can learn more about Stape from the Stape Academy. Analytics Mania also has an excellent course on sGTM, which includes a module about Stape

There is another notable course from MeasureU as well.

How can Stape help me with retargeting?

By using server-side tracking, you send more data to the platforms where you run retargeting campaigns, which means larger audiences and more effective campaigns.

I want to set up CAPI for WhatsApp messaging ads (through Meta Ads) using Stape, but I’m not sure how to do it. I’ve already read Stape’s article on setting up WhatsApp CAPI for messaging ads. Still, I couldn’t find any tutorial or video explaining how to configure both client- and server-side tracking for Meta messaging ads. Could you help?

You can follow our blog post on WhatsApp tracking, which gives guidance on using the WhatsApp Conversion API with Stape. Please note that client-side tracking isn’t possible for WhatsApp messaging ads, so you’ll need to use server-side tracking only for accurate data collection and reporting.

If I set up server-side tracking only for WhatsApp messaging ads, will it work without any other configuration?

Yes, that’s correct.

Is there an article to learn more about the GTM web Meta Pixel tag by Stape?

Yes, you can check out the blog post on Add Facebook Pixel in GTM.

Regarding the same-origin domain (e.g., gtm.domain.com → domain.com/metrics) — can you explain how it works?

We had a separate webinar on this topic. You can watch the recording and find other useful links related to the same-origin approach in this webinar.

If Meta CAPI was implemented via the Meta CAPI Gateway on Stape, and then a server setup is done via GTM with Stape, should Meta Conversion API be done via the server container?

Yes, the Gateway setup becomes redundant in such a case, so it can be shut down for you to rely fully on the server GTM container.

If I already have a server-side tracking app on Shopify, can I still use your app just for pushing the data layer and webhooks, or will it inject the custom loader GTM script? Does the first flag make it work for push only? Will webhook events work if I don’t use it to inject the custom loader GTM script?

All tabs work independently, you can use the Data Layer and Webhook features without enabling GTM script injection.

Can the imported GTM container template from Setup Assistant be used with any eCommerce system as long as they use properly formatted data layers?

Yes, of course. You can either adjust the data layer on your website to match the Setup Assistant’s variables or update the Setup Assistant’s variables to align with your website’s data layer keys.
