GEO Headers

How GEO Headers works

When a request reaches your sGTM container, GEO Headers checks the visitor’s IP address and adds location details to this request. These details can include country, region, city, IP address, and postal code, so you do not need to connect a separate geo API.

In sGTM, these location details appear as request headers. Their technical names are X-GEO-Country,X-GEO-Country-Name,X-GEO-Region,X-GEO-City, X-GEO-Ipaddress, and X-GEO-PostalCode.

Benefits of GEO Headers

  • Improve location-based reporting. Send country, region, or city values to analytics platforms as event parameters or user properties, so you can compare performance across markets.
  • Send richer event data to supported ad platforms. Add country or region values to server-side events, so platforms receive more location context for reporting and audience creation.
  • Build region-specific tracking logic. Use location data to control tag behavior or request routing, so your tracking setup can follow different business rules for each market.
  • Apply consent settings based on visitor location. Use country or region values to trigger the relevant consent logic, so each visitor receives the settings prepared for their region.

Enrich events with location data

Add country, region, city, IP address, or postal code values to server-side events to improve reporting and build tracking logic for different markets.
