Multi-zone sGTM container hosting
Updated Aug 4, 2025
When creating a server Google Tag Manager (sGTM) container in Stape, you can choose your server location. The best practice is to select the zone closest to where most of your clients are from. This way, requests to your sGTM container don’t have to travel long distances, avoiding response time slowdown, delays in tracking, and data loss.
But what if your clients are located all over the world? Then the best solution is to select the Global multi-zone server location option. With it, incoming requests are automatically routed to the nearest available zone based on the IP address of the user.
The zone is chosen from all current Stape Global zones:
- US Center (Iowa)
- EU Center (Germany)
- SA East (Brazil)
- AP East (Singapore)
Benefits of multi-zone hosting
- Reduced latency - faster request-response times mean more reliable event collection and less chance of dropped data.
- Scalable solution - one container works across multiple zones simultaneously, making tracking consistent for international brands.
- Better user experience - with reduced lag and smoother tracking performance, websites and apps can deliver more seamless experiences.
Migrating to a multi-zone container
Even if you’re already using a single-zone container, migration to multi-zone hosting is simple:
- Create a new server container in your Stape account. If you’re migrating from an existing single-zone Stape container, make sure to copy your current configuration into your new container. Select the Global multi-zone server location option, available for Business plans and higher.
- Create and verify a new custom subdomain and use the new tagging server URL in your setup.
- Cancel the subscription for your previous single-zone container and, optionally, delete it if you no longer need it.
