Microsoft Advertising connection
Updated Aug 7, 2026
The Microsoft Advertising connection lets Stape handle your OAuth tokens for the Microsoft platform, so authentication is fully managed on Stape's side. It works with the Microsoft Ads Offline Conversion tag and removes the need to create an app in Azure.
The Microsoft Advertising is available for sGTM containers on the Pro subscription plans and higher.
How it works
- Enable the Microsoft Advertising connection inside your Connections dashboard.
- Set up the Microsoft Ads Offline Conversion tag.
- Stape securely processes and handles OAuth authentication and token refreshing on its own servers.
- The offline conversion data flows from Stape to Microsoft Advertising through the connection. Previously, setting up Microsoft Offline Conversions required manually creating an app in Azure, generating OAuth tokens, and managing credentials. The Microsoft Advertising Connection eliminates this technical overhead completely.
Before you begin
Ensure you have the Microsoft Advertising account with Standard or Super Admin permissions.
How to connect Microsoft Advertising
- Log in to your Stape account and select your sGTM container from the dashboard.

2. Click the Connections tab.
3. Click Sign-in in the Microsoft Advertising section.

4. Sign in with a Microsoft account that has access to the Microsoft Advertising account you want to configure the tag for.
5. Set up the Microsoft Ads Offline Conversion tag.
How to verify the connection
- In Stape – the Microsoft Advertising connection shows you as signed-in.

- In Microsoft Advertising – open Conversions → Conversion goals, and confirm offline conversions are recorded after events are sent. It takes at least 6 hours for a conversion to appear.

- Test – in Google Tag Manager open the sGTM Preview Mode and send a webhook that triggers the conversion. Select your Microsoft Ads Offline Conversion tag and inspect the outgoing HTTP request. If the API returns a 200 OK status with no error messages, the connection is successful and Google is processing your data in the background.

How to disconnect or reconnect
- Disconnect – click the Sign out button on your connection. This revokes Stape's stored token for that connection.
- Reconnect – click Sign in again and complete the authorization flow. Reconnecting replaces the previously stored credentials.
Troubleshooting
The access was revoked or the token is expired
Usually, when the token expires, Stape automatically refreshes it. If not, then you’re automatically disconnected from the platform. To fix this, click the Sign-in button again, and complete the login.
Wrong account was selected
Disconnect the platform by clicking Sign out, then click Sign in again and choose the correct account with access during the authorization step.
Data isn't appearing in the destination
Confirm the following:
- Microsoft Ads Offline Conversion tag is installed and configured.
- You have working ad campaigns.
- The connection status in the dashboard is Signed-in.
- The signed-in account has standard or super admin permissions.
