Overview of Snapchat Conversions API (CAPI)

Updated May 5, 2025

Snapchat Conversions API (Snap CAPI) is a server-side tracking solution designed to send data directly from your server to Snapchat’s servers. Unlike traditional web pixels that track users through their browsers, Snapchat CAPI enables tracking user actions more reliably, even if browsers block cookies or users activate ad-blockers.

Snap CAPI supports all the standard Pixel events plus any custom events you invent. You can send web, app, or offline data, choose which customer details to include, and hash personal identifiers before they leave your server, satisfying privacy policies while still improving match rates.

You have two options to configure Snap CAPI tracking:

Benefits of Snapchat Conversions API

  • Stronger attribution - server calls don’t get blocked as easily, so you see the real number of conversions and can trust your CPA and ROAS figures.
  • Cheaper, smarter optimization - Snap’s bidding engine learns from each conversion. Feed it 10 percent more events and it targets high-value audiences faster, often lowering cost-per-action.
  • Better remarketing lists - Snap CAPI still fires when a browser blocks cookies, keeping remarketing audiences full and fresh.
  • Quick setup options - choose a ready-made Snapchat Conversions API Gateway (learn about its benefits here) or go the flexible sGTM route if you want full control.

FAQ

How does Snapchat CAPI differ from Snapchat Pixel?

The Snapchat Pixel fires JavaScript in a visitor’s browser to send conversion data, so it depends on cookies, browser permissions, and can be blocked by ad blockers or privacy settings.

Snapchat Conversions API sends the same events directly from your server to Snapchat, bypassing the browser entirely. That server-side path means Snap CAPI captures web, app, or offline conversions that the Pixel might miss, offers stronger privacy controls (you choose and hash the data you send), and supports event deduplication when used alongside the Pixel.
